Nice: My Date with an Anchovy

I like to think I’m adventurous when it comes to food. I have blossomed from a picky eater into a woman with an experienced palette. Yet some experiences are more pleasant than others…I tried my best while tasting Nice’s offerings. Niçoise cuisine sits somewhere between French peasant fare and Itialian Grandmothers cooking — a combination that I had not expected, but was delighted to taste! Having a love of cooking, my mother and I found a Niçoise cuisine class in Vieux Nice run by Canadian native Rosa Jackson who’s lived in France for over twenty years. Our group met at a café right on the Cours Saleya where the farmers market takes over six days a week. We were the first to arrive in good ol’ American fashion. Nice: When to Sit and Have a Beer

Knowing when to grab a seat at an outside café is one of the top ten life lessons my mother has taught me…up there with learning how to cross the street. Ma Mère et moi travel well together because we both know when to sit down at a café and have a beer together. We can always revert to this mother-daughter ritual while traveling. I find that our adventures are drama and stress free because we really know how to travel well with one another. She knows that I need an afternoon snack, which can always be gelato, and I know that she usually needs a break before venturing out into the night for dinner. She’s the best travel partner that I’ve ever had…and probably ever will have!
